February 26th 2004 Rare Disorders Denmark and The Danish Cancer Society hosted a conference on Orphan Drugs in The Danish Parliament. The conference gathered a wide range of scientists, health care professionels, patient´organisations, Danish pharmaceutical and biotech companies, authorities and politicians. On one hand the conference illustrated that Denmark has a fine potential for research in the field: We have well functioning biobanks and registers, dedicated scientists and a lot of knowledge. On the other hand it became clear that special initiatives and support have to been initiated to increase the Danish potential, among those a national strategy for research in rare diseases.
